"you have a very short life line". " It's ok - I know"

A few years ago there was an Andy Warhol exhibition in Edinburgh, I went along as I wasn't familiar with most of his work out side soup cans and liz taylor. They were showing his screen tests. Little videos of where nothing happened the subject just looked down the camera. That is when I met Edie Sedgwick.

"IT’S SORT OF LIKE A MOCKERY IN A WAY OF REALITY BECAUSE THEY THINK EVERYTHING IS SMILES AND SWEETNESS AND FLOWERS WHEN THERE IS SOMETHING BITTER TO TASTE. AND TO PRETEND THERE ISN’T IS FOOLISH. I MEAN THE ONES THAT WONDER AROUND AND KNOW, AT THE SAME TIME, AND YET WEAR FLOWERS, AND THEY DESERVE TO WEAR FLOWERS. AND THEY’VE EARNED THEIR SMILE…YOU CAN TELL BY PEOPLE’S EYES

Edith Minturn Sedgwick, beautiful artist and actress, and all-around loon. Remembered for setting the world on fire and escaping the clutches of her terrifying family. Made friends with everybody and anybody-by creating chaos and uproar wherever she went. Divorced as many times as she married, she leaves only good wishes behind.

  1. Thanks for this post.
First reaction I got from reading a short story of her life, I felt really sad. All the money and prestige couldn't seem to stop the tragic events that plagued her and her family. It must have been so hard for her mother to see her outlive most of her children. It's not right. But...I'm happy that Edie made sure she lived her life to the hilt :)
